Overview:

The Lemosho Route is considered to be one of the most scenic and less crowded routes to the summit of Kilimanjaro. It offers hikers a chance to experience a wide variety of landscapes, including rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert, and arctic tundra. The 9-day trek itinerary provides ample time for acclimatization, which is essential for maximizing your chances of successfully reaching the summit.

Our special 9-day itinerary on the Leomosho route, which includes a two-night stay at the base camp. Designed for non-experienced hikers, this itinerary takes you from the base camp to the summit and back to the base camp for overnight stay.

Unlike most itineraries, which require hikers to descend to 10,000ft after the summit, our special design makes it easier and more comfortable for most hikers to complete the trek. You’ll find that our approach allows you to better acclimate to the mountain and enjoy a more leisurely ascent.

 The Lemosho route requires trekkers to have excellent physical fitness and stamina. As the trail is challenging, we highly recommend undertaking a fitness training program before the trek.

 Safari Seekers Expedition provide tents for trekkers and also have mess tents for meals and socializing.  

 We recommend bringing warm and waterproof clothing, a sturdy pair of hiking boots, trekking poles, a sleeping bag rated for cold temperatures, and a variety of other essentials like a camera, headlamp, and water bottle. A comprehensive list of gear will be provided by your tour operator.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro International Airport

Upon arrival, you will be met by Safari Seekers Expedition representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Here, you will meet your guide for a pre-trek briefing and equipment check. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Big Tree Camp (2,650 m/8,692 ft)

After breakfast you will be driven to the Lemosho gate where you will begin your Kilimanjaro trek. From the gate, you will walk 3-4 hours through the lush rainforest to the Big Tree Camp where tents will be set up and the chef prepare dinner. Overnight.

Day 3: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m/11,485 ft)

After breakfast, you will continue trekking through the rainforest, crossing a valley and climb up to the Shira ridge where you will enjoy views of the Shira plateau and Mount Meru. The hike times in this high-altitude terrain can be longer, typically 5-6 hours of trekking. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Mir Hut Camp (3,840m/12,598ft)

After breakfast, you will leave the moorland environment and enter the Alpine desert zone. This section of the trek is a steady incline, and hikers should be prepared for the day’s altitude gain. Approximate trek time is 4-5 hours. Dinner and Overnight.

Day 5: Moir Camp to Lava Tower (4,640m/15,223ft) and Barranco Camp (3,960m/12,992ft)

After breakfast, you will trek to the Lava Tower where you will acclimatize by going up to an altitude of 4,640m/15,223ft before descending to Barranco Camp. The descent to Barranco Camp takes about 2-3 hours, and you will be able to enjoy amazing views of the southern glaciers and the Barranco Valley. Dinner and Overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 6: Barranco camp to karanga camp(3,900m/12,795ft)

After breakfast, you will begin a trekking day of approximately 5-6 hours that will see you ascending the challenging Barranco Wall. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with fantastic views of peaks and glaciers of Kilimanjaro. From here, you will continue to Karanga Camp. Dinner and Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to the Base Camp, Barafu Camp (4,680m/15,354ft)

After breakfast, you will begin a trekking day lasting approximately 3-4 hours. This short trek is important for acclimatization to the altitude and will prepare you for the summit day. At Barafu Camp, you will have dinner and rest for the night.

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) and back to base camp for overnight

You will be awakened at 3am, and after a hot drink and light snack, you will begin the trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro. The trek duration ranges between 9-10 hours, depending on the climber’s physical fitness, and the weather conditions. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, you will take a moment to celebrate before heading down to Barafu Camp for overnight

Day 9 Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp (3,200m/20,170ft)

After a hearty breakfast, we will begin our descent to Mweka Camp where we will spend our last night on the mountain. The trek will take us approximately 4 to 5 hours, passing through lush rainforest and cloud forest. As we make our way through the stunning landscapes, we will reflect on our incredible achievement of reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m/5,380ft) and transfer to hotel in Arusha.

After breakfast, you will begin the final descent to Mweka Gate through the lush forest. At Mweka Gate, you will be presented with a Kilimanjaro certificate depending on the level that you reached. After a short celebration with the crew , you will transferred to your hotel

Day 10: Departure

Transfer to airport for departure.
